Lumio is live on mainnet – try our new EVM L2

Lumio on Optimism (the canary mainnet) is the first mainnet implementation of our ambitious Lumio L2 project. It’s  an optimistic rollup built with the OP Stack that will soon become part of Superchain, an emerging network of L2s spearheaded by Optimism. Here’s how you can try our brand-new rollup on mainnet right now.

What is Lumio on Optimism (the canary mainnet)?

The canary mainnet of Lumio is Pontem’s latest L2 initiative – an optimistic rollup for Ethereum built using the OP Stack and fundamentally a fork of Optimism. It’s the first instance of the larger Lumio project to run on mainnet. Its native gas currency is ETH, and the average block time is 2 seconds.

As of the end of May 2024, over 43,000 transactions are made over Lumio mainnet network every day. The average transaction fee is just $0.00007.

Lumio On Optimism (the canary mainnet) currently uses EVM as its execution layer, but it can also compile other blockchain VMs, such as Solana VM (SVM), Move VM, etc. This essentially means being able to deploy Move, SVM, and other dApps on Ethereum. At the same time, devs will enjoy monolithic UX for liquidity and other primitives. “Modular VM, Monolithic UX” is one of our favorite taglines for Lumio.

SuperLumio can support proto danksharding and blob transactions - Ethereum’s new scaling mechanism that allows rollups to reduce transaction fees by as much as 99%. We can activate this mechanism as soon as the amount of user transactions on SuperLumio justifies this.

We’ve launched the canary mainnet of Lumio using Conduit – the leading solution for deploying customizable rollups. We’d like to thank the Conduit team for their support and for creating such an awesome product, which can cut the rollup launch cycle from months to weeks.

About Superchain

One of the reasons we decided to build on the OP Stack is so that SuperLumio can become part of Superchain – the emerging network of interconnected L2s that all use the OP Stack technology. They will eventually share security, governance, bridging, a communication layer, and upgrades.

Other members of the Superchain ecosystem include Optimism mainnet itself, Base, opBNB, Fractal, Mode, Blast, Worldcoin’s World Chain, Mantle, Metis Andromeda, Lisk, and others. Superchain is one of the most exciting things happening in the rollup space, and we are proud to be part of it.

Superchain’s vision is to scale Ethereum horizontally with interoperable chains. The addition of SuperLumio will open up even more possibilities: since Lumio mainnet supports altVMs, non-EVM projects will be able to integrate with the Superchain ecosystem and benefit from its shared security and composability. For example, imagine a protocol built for Solana deployed on an SVM i instance of SuperLumio and interoperable with protocols on Optimism and Base.

How to use tha canary mainnet of Lumio

  1. Create an account on SuperLumio. In Pontem Wallet, click on the account name in the top left -> Create Wallet -> SuperLumio. Select Yes if you’d like the new account on SuperLumio to use the same seed phrase (mnemonic) as your regular Pontem Wallet account.
  1. Bridge ETH using this bridge. You can also use it to bridge ETH back to Ethereum if you wish - and even to bridge $PEPE.
  1. Send and receive ETH. Once you have topped up the wallet with some ETH, you can send it to other addresses on the same network.

Wen swaps? Soon, we will open access to swaps in the canary mainnet of Lumio so that you can start swapping tokens. A concentrated liquidity DEX (CLMM) for this implementation of Lumio is also in the works. Do follow the news on X, Telegram and Discord.

Comparison of Lumio Implementations

Lumio is the overarching name for Pontem Network’s grand L2 project. It is execution- and settlement layer agnostic, so we can make versions of Lumio that support different blockchain VMs and settle on different L1s. We have started with EVM and Move VM and with settlement on Ethereum, but we can add Solana, Avalanche, Cosmos, etc.

Lumio on Optimism (the canary mainnet) is the first mainnet iteration of Lumio, with EVM for execution layer.

Lumio on Optimism (testnet) supports both EVM and Move VM, and we use it as a production-grade experimentation sandbox. For now, we will keep distributing WL spots for testing Lumio on Optimism as we have been up to this point.

Lumio on Solana is on devnet now! With support for SVM and Move VM, Lumio offers a high-performance Layer 2 solution on Solana.
